Lambeth Tour Guides Celebrate

Now in its fifth year the ‘Become A Lambeth Tour Guide’ course, accredited by the Lambeth Tour Guides Association and taught at Morley College Waterloo, has 14 new Guides joining the ranks of alumni.

A ceremony at Lambeth Town Hall in July saw Mayor of Lambeth, Councillor Paul Valentine make presentations to students who completed nine months study and three assessed elements including practical Tour Guiding.

New guides are already planning tours across the Borough. Look out for them during the Lambeth Heritage Month in September – and beyond.

Fancy becoming a Lambeth Tour Guide?

Applications are now open for this September 2026. Term-time classes on Thursday evenings at Morley College, Waterloo Centre, cover themes including Political Lambeth, Sport & Entertainment, Parks & Gardens, Art & Architecture, Transport & Welfare. Saturday morning training walks explore Lambeth from Streatham in the south, Herne Hill in the east, Clapham to the west and South Bank in the north of the Borough.

The course introduces techniques and develops expertise along with project work and presentations from guest lecturers on subjects such as Black History Month and Art in Lambeth. In past years students have visited the International Maritime Organisation, the Cinema Museum, Backstage at the National Theatre and the Black Cultural Archives.

New Tour Guide Adrian Jackson said:

The Course very much gets the best out of you, with focus on practical guiding skills as was as Lambeth history. I felt I was always learning and progressing to be a professional Guide. And, working with my fellow students was a real bonus!

Previous experience is not required – bring your curiosity, enthusiasm and a willingness to learn as part of a friendly and engaged group of learners, guided by the experienced tutor team from the Lambeth Tour Guides Association.

Members are often seen around South London, giving talks to local societies, taking walks and appearing on Doing Lambeth Walks, produced in collaboration with Morley Radio.
