Yvonne Shorten

A passionate and proud Lambeth resident for many years, I have always had a great interest in local history as well as the beautiful parks and open spaces in this part of London. I was born in Cork, Ireland and graduated with a degree in English and History (B.A.) I worked in the Leisure Industry and as a Parks Police officer. As an ex Police Officer, I have extensive experience of delivering presentations to college students and executive committees.

I have lived in different parts of Lambeth and was drawn back to learning more about its rich history, where I have lived since coming to London. I have particular knowledge of Streatham, where I have lived for thirty years and I love storytelling, carrying on the strong oral tradition of many Irish people.

I was brought up on a farm in West Cork and have loved discovering how the old farms and manors of rural Lambeth morphed into becoming what today is a thriving and diverse central urban district in inner London. I love sharing this fascinating history as well as little nuggets of local knowledge.

I am an accredited guide with Lambeth Tour Guides since June 2025.
