Mark Simmons
Originally from Edinburgh in Scotland, I have lived in Brixton for the last 30 years. I am both a passionate lover of all things Scottish and a Londoner!
A joint history and history of art graduate from the University of Aberdeen, I went on to have a long and satisfying career in international education. I have been fortunate to live and work in many parts of the world including SE Asia, the Middle East and West Africa, and spent time as a student in the USA.
I am a true believer in lifelong learning and in the last five years have trained in vineyard management, garden design and becoming a Lambeth Tour Guide!
I came to guiding after spending the last fifteen years managing undergraduate academic programmes for US students in London. I know how to keep a student interested and engaged in the culture, literature and history of the city!
I still have a part-time role in international education, but my love is local history, art, gardens and architecture. I am a good communicator and love to tell a story! I aim to create engaging and entertaining tours. Guiding is not just about the facts, it’s about the people behind the facts - to tell their stories and how they contributed to this great city that we all call home.
